D1

Siem Reap

Transfer from airport to your hotel.

Visit to Angkor Wat, one of the modern wonders of the world. Be amazed by the sheer size of the temple and learn how the Khmer Empire prospered between the 9th and 13th centuries, around the time when Angkor Wat was built. Stroll through the intricately carved hallways that show hundreds of fine carvings and discover small shrines still in use today by the local people. If time permits, continue to visit other temples in the area.

D2

Cycling around Angkor Wat

Start the day with a ride to Ta Prohm. This beautiful temple is Angkor’s jewel and is overgrown with fig trees, giving a haunting yet exotic atmosphere. The magnificent roots of the trees have merged themselves over the centuries with the temple’s huge stone blocks, emphasizing a ‘forgotten city’ feeling. Continuing to BanteayKdei, which is one of Angkor’s largest structures in the area and well worth a visit.

Lunch is at local restaurant.

In the afternoon visit the ancient royal city of Angkor Thom with its magnificent centre piece; the Bayon. At first glance, it may seem like a shapeless mass of stone, but further scrutiny reveals towers with enigmatic faces of former King Jayavarman VII looking into every direction. The faces are believed to be protecting the city from potential attackers. Continue the exploration with a visit to the Terrace of the Elephants, which served as a platform from where the King could welcome back his victorious army. Next door is the Terrace of the Leper King which holds perfect carvings winding along a narrow passage way that leads to the Baphuon complex. (Maximum of 14 kilometres cycling)

D3

Cycling to Banteay Srei and Banteay Samre

After breakfast, we have an easy cycling trip through the countryside and start the day riding west out of Siem Reap towards Banteay Samre, then Banteay SreiTemple. The name Banteay Srei is means the “Citadel of Women” and is one of the most beautiful temples of the Angkorian period and finish cycling. After lunch we transfer to visit Mebon Temple and Sunset at Pro Rup temple then transfer back to the hotel.

D4

Cycling around the ancient capital then boarding the cruise ship

After breakfast, drive toward the south. Stop along the way to cycle aroundSambor Prei Kuk, the ancient capital of Chenla (early 7th century). Originally called Ishanapura, Sambor Prei Kuk shelters the most impressive pre-Angkorian monuments with more than 100 temples scattered throughout the lush forest.

Lunch is at local restaurant.

In the afternoon, depart to Kampong Cham and visit Wat Hanchey where we will enjoy a 360° view of the surrounding valleys, islands and the Mekong River as well as explore the pre-Angkorian temples and monastery built in the 7th century. Transfer to the Cruise and check-in on board at around 18h00.

When we embark the ship we will have a welcome briefing, then you can enjoy some private time until dinner is served in the dining hall. Our lounge cinema features selected classic movies (every night).

Overnight at the riverbank at Kampong Cham.

D5

Cruising and Cycling into Villages

Every morning, our Tai Chi class on the sun deck will give you energy for the day ahead. Breakfast is served in the dining hall. The ship sails up towards the small Angkor Ban village on the Mekong River. The Angkor Ban village is famous for its unspoiled community and beautiful, traditional houses. It feels like being transported back a hundred years ago, into an era unaffected by modernity. Villagers are characterized by their unbridled warmth. We will cycle around the local villages to see the local life before hopping back on the cruise at the river bank.

Enjoy your lunch as we set sail downstream the Mekong. In the afternoon a High Tea is offered and our staff is keen to show you the variety of traditional Khmer fashion. We arrive at the Island of Koh Oknha Tey. This spot in the middle of the Mekong owns its fame for manufacturing high class silk products. By tuk tuk we explore the island with its workshops and learn how silk is processed from its source, provided by little silkworms, to a final top quality product made of original Cambodian silk. After some additional cruising time, passing the confluence of the Mekong and Tonle Rivers, the boat achors near Kampong Chhnang. Have a fresh drink before dinner and marvel at the amazing marshlands of this beautiful area.

Overnight in mid river at Kampong Chhnang.

D6

Towards Phnom Penh

Wake up early to witness this spectacular scenery at the break of dawn. Breakfast buffet is served in the dining hall. We are now in Kampong Chhnang, Cambodia’s “water world”, where everything is on sticks balanced on water rich soil. We take a local boat to the shore. Start cycling to explore the rural villages of Kampong Chhnang. Our guides will introduce to us the village specialties – Khmer style pottery making and sugar palm production before heading back to the boat.

Back on board lunch is served while the cruise continues with a languid meander along the Tonle River towards Kampong Tralach. Gliding through leafy swaths of this jungle–like landscape we reach Kampong Tralach. Cacophonous children wave enthusiastically while bringing their livestock for a bath in the meandering river. We will stop at the “Green School” which is partly supported by Heritage Line. See all this river life – which is so different than ours – by a local ox cart ride. After some additional cruising time the boat arrives at the pier of Phnom Penh. Feel free to have your first exploration by yourself after dinner. Stroll along the river promenade and watch the locals chit–chatting, selling odds and ends or have a drink in one of the numerous bars.

D7

Phnom Penh City Tour

After having breakfast, take a local boat to the shore and then transfer through bustling Phnom Penh city before crossing the mighty Mekong River by local ferryto enjoy a cycle around and witness life on the Mekong island known as “Koh Dach” the home of Silk weaving. Inhabitants on this island are the rice and vegetable farmers and most of the ladies who stay at home do silk weaving and cooking for their family. This is a great chance to see rural life in full swing.

We take lunch at a fine restaurant in town then explore the fascinating cultural heritage of Phnom Penh in the afternoon. The golden edifice of the Royal Palacewith its Silver Pagoda and the exceptional Khmer crafts at the National Museumare our afternoon highlights. The day trip ends with a “cyclo” ride back to the ship through the bustling streets of downtown Phnom Penh. Take some rest in your spacious cabin or join other fellow passengers at the bar for refreshing drinks before our captivating evening activities start. In the early evening a barbecue dinner on the sun deck commences. The dinner is accompanied with an Apsara dance performance. You have to witness the brilliance and richness of this dance along with the soothing sounds of the traditional music. As the evening unwinds, enjoy your supper with a good glass of wine and marvel at the skyline of Phnom Penh, and the calming flow of the Tonle River.

D8

Phnom Penh to Kep

After breakfast, our guide and driver will transfer you to Kep, a 3-hour drive, and after stopping at Chouk, we get back on our bikes and cycle to the coastal town of Kep. We cycle through Phnom Wur Mountain, passing by some of the Khmer Rouge areas and the lake that they was built for use during the war time. We then continue along the foot of the mountain until we reach our hotel in Kep.

D9

A Day on Rabbit Island

Today, we’ll set out into the gulf to enjoy the secluded white sand beaches at Koh Tonsai, Rabbit Island, you will be free at your own leisure and enjoy swimming and the picnic lunch cooked by the crew. In the late afternoon take the boat back to Kep.

D10

Sihanoukville
