Arrive in Bangkok and Evening Dinner

After your transfer from the airport and hotel check in, you’ll be straight into it with an introduction of Old Siam with a visit to the Royal Grand Palace and Wat Pho, Bangkok’s oldest temple and home to the reclining Buddha. As dinner time approaches a somtam, or light papaya salad appertizer will be served at Krua Apsorn Restaurant before the main course  of Pad Thai cooked the old fashioned way over a charcoal grill at Pad Thai Loong Pha. 

After dinner you’ll visit Pak Klong Talad, one of the biggest frsh markets in the region.

Overnight in Bangkok.

The Country Life

An hours drive south of Bangkok, Samut Songkhram Province offers a glimpse into the country life. You’ll see an amazing market here that covers the railway track and gets packed away as the train nears then reappears after the train passes through.

Take a boat ride on the canals to a small coastal village where you’ll learn how to make traditional coconut desserts. Lunch at a local restaurant.

Experience street food in the evening. Take in the flavours, spices and aromas of the city’s Village of Love, the historic Bangrak neighbourhood.

Overnight in Bangkok.

Ayutthaya, the Ancient Capital

With ruins, temples and monastries, Ayutthaya was once the prosperous capital of the Kingdom of Siam. Lunch at Krua Pak Wan Restaurant followed by an unusual local delicacy in the town’s Muslim Quarter – candyfloss roti.

The afternoon is set for exploring some of the more interesting temples. Dinner is at the riverside Baan Khun Prah, a cozy little local restaurant that serves some of the best seafood in town.

Overngiht in Ayutthaya.

Journey time is 1 1/2 hours.

Wildlife and Vines

Drive to Khao Yai National Park for wildlife spotting as you walk along a trail. Expect mostly birdlife but the occasional larger animal may also be spotted.

Lunch at Lookkai Restaurant, a local fine dining restaurant before wine tasting and a guided tour at GranMonte Vinyard where you’ll learn the secret of wine making in a tropical country.

Overnight in Khao Yai.

Issan-style Cooking Class and Fusion Dinner

Travel away from Khao Yai for a few hours, stopping for a local specialty lunch Pad Mii Korat by the 11th century Phi Mai Khmer temples.

Bring home culinary inspiration from your cooking class where you’ll learn distinct dishes from the north-eastern region of Thailand.

A fusion dinner at the Concept Restaurant in Khon Kaen follows sunset.

Overnight in Khon Kaen.

Bugs and Temples

Enjoy a local picnic breakfast in a rice field before travelling through national parks to the central plains  town of Phitsanulok.

Are you prepared? It’s bugs for lunch at the local market! Try the big, the small and the ugly. An insect free lunch at a local restaurant is available as an alternative.

Visit some little known but beautiful temples and an interesting historic museum before your overnight stay in the town.

Total journey time is 4 1/2 hours

Cycling among the Chedi's of Sukhothai

A short drive to your Sukhothai hotel located by the UNESCO world heritage site, containing almost 200 ruined chedis. Take your time and enjoy the park by cycle. Lunch is provided at a local restaurant.

Sukhothai Noodles and Chiang Mai Street Food

After breakfast stop at an award winning cultural attraction, Ban Na Ton Chan established over 200 years ago, where you can learn about Lanna village life.

Lunch is a local noodle soup aptly named Sukhothai Noodle then continue on for 3 1/2 hours north to Chiang Mai, the cultural centre of Thailand. After checking into your hotel you’ll be shown around the old city traditional street food market where you can try what you like, including kanom jin, kanom krok and local rice whiskey.

Market and Cooking Class

Today is part of a small group cooking class at A Lot of Thai, as featured on Gordon’s (Ramsay) Great Escape. Start with a visit to a local market filled with fresh farm produce. Your guide will be a TV chef who will share her tips on how to select the best ingredients. She’ll then teach you how to prepare some delicious Thai dishes which you’ll get to enjoy for lunch. Note this is part of a small group tour, maximum 

Travel on the back of a songtaew pickup truck to the underground temple Wat Umong before time back at your hotel

Dinner is at the beautiful 137 Pillars House.

Hilltribe Minorities and Akha Style Food

Drive northeast towards Chiang Rai including a 1 hour scenic drive up Doa Mae Salong. Here you’ll meet a small community of the Akha tribe with just 58 households. Life is simple in the hilly area here close toe the Myanmar border. Enjoy a home cooked Adkha style lunch.

Overnight and dinner at your hotel in Chiang Rai.

Following breakfast a transfer to Chiang Rai Airport is included. Travel to Chiang Mai Airport or elsewhere can easily be arranged instead.
