Arrival in the Capital

You’ll be met on arrival by your guide and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure.

City Highlights, KOTO lunch and your first Cooking Class

Start the day with a visit to the highly acclaimed and insightful Vietnam Women’s Museum, followed by the Temple of Literature, a university for royalty dating back almost 1000 years.

Lunch at the famous KOTO Restaurant, a training centre for at risk and disadvantaged youth to learn hospitality skills.

Take part in a hands-on cooking class in the heart of the Old Quarter. You’ll learn how to prepare and cook northern Vietnamese cuisine in the home of a local woman who learned her culinary skills from her grandmother, a former chef who once served the French elite. Includes a visit to a market to buy the ingredients.

Halong Bay

Following breakfast leave Hanoi for a 3 1/2 hour drive to Halong Bay to board your boat for the overnight trip. Lunch is served onboard while cruising into the bay. Fill the afternoon with excursions to some of the limestone islands and optional activities or just relax onboard. Dinner is served onboard as the boat sets anchor for the evening.

Sunrise in the Bay and Sunset in Hoi An

Get up early to watch the sunrise and the changing colours of the islands. Breakfast is served while the boat cruises back to the pier. Travel back to Hanoi for your onward flight to Danang. On arrival you’ll be met by your local guide and driven to the picturesque riverside town of Hoi An.

Rice

Rice is the staple food of the Asian diet. Today you’re going to learn all about it!

A short bicycle ride through the rice paddies will bring you to a family farm where you’ll learn about the different steps in rice cultivation. Pop on a farmer’s conical hat and learn how to plough the fields with a buffalo, sow and transplant rice. Return to the farmer’s house to learn how to cook rice the traditional way.

Afternoon and evening at leisure.

Discover Hoi An then a Private Dinner in Hue

Hoi An is a charming old-world trading port. You’ll be led on a walking tour along the narrow streets, the market and into a traditional merchant’s house.

In the afternoon drive along the picturesque coastal road to Hue, the old imperial capital of Vietnam, stopping along the way at the wonderfully photogenic village of Lang Co.

Dinner is an exclusive private affair at the lovely and traditional Tha Om Garden House.

Royal Recipes in the City of Kings

Hue has a strong royal heritage so offers local delicacies not so easy to find elsewhere. You’ll learn how to prepare 4 or 5 courses of a royal meal, in the traditional ancient house of Y Thao Garden, near the old citadel.  You’ll come away with a deeper knowledge and feeling of ancient Hue.

In the afternoon you’ll tour the old city, staring at the Imperial Citadel where the dynasty ruled from until 1945.  Then take a cyclo, or bicycle taxi through the dai noi, or old city to Tinh Tam Lake where the Emperors used to come and relax. The lake is full of lotus flowers in summer and many coffee shops are nearby. Visit some of the tombs of the kings before taking a stroll around Dong Ba Market.
