Yangon, formerly known as Rangoon, is a relatively quiet and charming city with an impressive colonial and spiritual heritage. End the tour at the magnificent Shwedagon Pagoda, the most revered Buddhist temple in Myanmar. Local legend says the original structure was built 2500 years ago and renovated several times until its current shape in the 15th century. The guide will provide a tour around the massive complex with breathtaking views of the golden stupa.

Return to the hotel where a bottle of champagne and a special welcome present awaits in celebration of the first day of visit to Myanmar. An evening dinner is served at the hotel.

Continue to the neighbouring villages to learn about the local’s traditional livelihood. Observe the interesting process of creating poneyay gyi (pea powder paste) and see how local plum jam is made and packed. Resume the temple tour by visiting the glittering Shwezigon Pagoda, a prototype of later Myanmar stupas.

Return to the hotel for a break from the midday heat and lunch at leisure. The romance and beauty of Myanmar’s Irrawaddy River awaits later in the afternoon.
