Vietnam Multi-generational Family Holidays

multigenerational family travel vietnam

If you’re trying to plan a Vietnam trip that works for an 8-year-old, a 45-year-old and a 75-year-old at the same time, you already know the problem: everyone’s idea of a good day looks different, and the person organising it usually ends up doing all the negotiating — often from inside a family group chat that’s gone quiet on the actual decisions and loud on everything else. We specialise in exactly this kind of trip in Vietnam.

What actually makes a multi-generational family trip to Vietnam work

The right regions, not the whole country. A three-generation group doesn’t need to chase every highlight from Hanoi to the Mekong Delta. We build the trip around two or three regions done properly , often Hanoi, Halong Bay and Hoi An.

The right pace. Fewer, longer stops rather than a new hotel every night (we’ve learnt the hard way with babies and toddlers…) so nobody’s exhausted by day four.

Optional activities. A mix of days everyone does together, like an overnight Halong Bay cruise is a genuine highlight for every age, and optional activities, so a teenager who wants a cooking class or a bike ride in Hoi An and a grandparent who’d rather relax by the pool can both enjoy it  without anyone feeling left out or feeling like they’re tied to activities they’re not interested in.

Accommodation that suits everyone. Family or connecting rooms, resorts with something for different ages, and hotels in walkable, flat parts of town. Hoi An’s old town is a good example – rather than arranging taxis to go out for dinner, it would be easy walking distance to a choice of restaurants.

Who does the organising? We do.

The usual problem with a big family trip is that one person (maybe you?) ends up as the unpaid project manager for weeks: chasing everyone’s preferences, comparing options, managing the group chat. We take that off your plate. You tell us about your family once, and we build the Vietnam itinerary and manage the logistics from there. One point of contact for the whole trip, not a different person every time something needs changing.

FAQ

Is Vietnam manageable for grandparents or less mobile family members? Yes, we choose the regions, pacing and accommodation specifically with any mobility  (pushchairs, walkers or wheelchairs) and comfort in mind, and use private transport throughout.

Can you handle a family group with really different budgets? Yes, we can build tiered accommodation options into one shared itinerary, so everyone travels together without everyone paying the same rate. Some hotels and resorts have a fantastic variety of room types to suit several budgets.

What if the grandkids want adventure and the grandparents want to relax? That’s normal, and it’s exactly what we plan for. Shared highlight days together, with optional activities either side so nobody’s stuck doing something that isn’t for them.

How many days do we need for a multi-generational Vietnam trip? Most family groups do best with 10–14 days across two or three regions, with proper rest days built in rather than a packed checklist itinerary.

How far ahead should we start planning a big family trip to Vietnam? Ideally 6–11 months out, to lock in the right family or connecting rooms and dates across a larger group.
